History:

Pedesclaux’s classed vineyard lies on the prime gravel plateau above Pauillac village, adjacent to Mouton Rothschild and Pontet Canet. It was established in 1810 by Pierre Urbain Pédesclaux, an influential wine broker of the time, and son Urbain took it on to successful ranking in the 1855 Médoc classification. In 1891, it was sold to the noble Gastebois family who completely renovated the estate and much improved the wine. Even so, in 1947, faced with economic difficulties after WWII, the family was forced to suspend production. Three years later, Pédesclaux was bought by the Gastebois’s long-time estate manager, Lucien Jugla. He set about restoring its fortunes, and today the estate is jointly managed by his two youngest sons, Jean and Pierre, along with Pierre’s wife Brigitte and their nephew Denis Jugla. As a family, the Juglas have brought new life to Pédesclaux and continue to make improvements.
