Giuaani, Mtsvane Qvevri, Kakheti, Georgia 2014

2014 marks the first commercial vintage of the Giuaani Winery, a family estate with a history traced back to the 19th century. Fermented and aged for 5 months in qvevri, followed by 4 months of barrel ageing, it has a waxy nose of banana skin and dried apricot with a hint of mushroom and honey, suggesting development. Smoky, honeyed on the palate with plenty of dried yellow fruits, yellow apple and a hint of caramel. Complex with a soft touch of tannin and sweet spices, leading to a lovely finish of tangerine skin.
